Caird Code Rule #3 – Do not read the charters in isolation

What the hell happened to Rule #3.  I don't think it exists.

This is good advice.  Don't read the codes in isolation.  You can confuse readers by cross-referencing at all.

With the exception of the FSC (which was published in 2003), every charter gazetted in the last two years has used the DTI's COGP as their template. Most charters are a little scant on information and refer to the DTI's codes – others are just plain scant. The Construction Charter has included a clause that states that if there is any confusion between the charter and the DTI's codes then the charter is to prevail.

As a result it is almost impossible to implement any of the charters without referring to the DTI's codes. A working knowledge of the DTI's codes is absolutely vital, irrespective of the charter.
